Tonight I said good bye to a very dear member of our family, Samson Leonidas Morgan. He moved on to Doggy Heaven at 7 p.m.

Sam,
I have been watching you suffer for several days. I knew things were coming to an end, but today I couldn't help but cry as your body trembled with pain. I'm so sorry we had to let you go! You've been a part of our family for nine wonderful years.

I remember the day we brought you home, carrying you in the palm of one hand. You were so little. We carried you until you were just too heavy, and that didn't take very long. I remember how scared you were as a puppy, but I also remember how tough you became when strangers came around.

When one of the children was threatened by a Pitbull, you bravely protected her. Thank you, Sam!

Thank you for making our home feel warm and special. Thank you for wagging your tail every time we came near you. Thank you for forcing us to rub your head or hug your neck, even when we didn't want to.

Thank you for sitting on the feet of our guests even though they thought they should fear you. You were kind of big.

Thank you for loving me and making everyone you came around feel that same love, especially the children.

My house will be very different without you! In fact, I can't even imagine what that will be like.

Rest in peace, my dear, dear doggy! You served us well. You will be missed! My face aches from crying and I know this is just the beginning.
