Less than a week ago, a car hit our little puppy, Petey. Although she died instantly, the look of joy and eager anticipation was still on her face, because she was chasing a bunny. Funny, now that I think about it, she never caught one, and she would probably play with it if she did. That was Petey.
She would have been 2 yrs old next month. I bred her mom, Haley, hoping to get another laid back, gentle Jack Russell. I got Petey, whom I jokingly referred to as "the Village Idiot." She was so full of life, so eager to experience everything a dog's world could offer. While Haley was gentle and passive, Petey was "in your face." But she loved unconditionally, and my one regret is that I didn't pause long enough to realize the life lesson she was teaching our whole family: to embrace every moment of your life, live it to the fullest, and always chase as many bunnies as you can!
Even though she's gone now, she will live forever in our memories, for she has taught me the most valuable lesson of all: love life!
