Smiling and playing
I sat, looking at them all
captured by one
He said,"Take Minnie for a while
Get to know her."
But which one was Minnie?
The border collie?
Or one of the labs?
It didn't matter
I only wanted one
She took my eye
and stole my heart.
The black and brown mix,
what was her name?
So i walked, slouched to the kennels
To pick out this "Minnie"
and say goodbye to my new friend.
But, behold. He has opened the wrong kennel
That's where my mutt lives
Oh joy, SHE is Minnie.
My Minnie.
We worked and played
Shared hotel rooms and love
Never to be parted
To stay together till old and gray.
But she aged quicker than I
And we had one last trip
To the vet to say our goodbyes.
The lakes flooded down my face
And she was gone.
Her toys remain, memories, licks,
fights and love.
And now she is gone.
