Louis
by Dave
(Illinois)
Almost 20
And still he died
Before his time
A Grooming table four times His height
And a cutter distracted
After removing the safety
Harness, a deadly
Combination for one so frail.
And a little blind.
He felt the freedom and couldn't help
But make a break,
Not so fast anymore,
But quick enough
To beat the cutter
To the table's edge.
It might as well have been
A cliff
Do we report the groomer? Sue?
Dogs are forgiving creatures.
They didn't do it on purpose,
Louis would say,
"Leave it alone, Dad. I'm OK now."
He's gone and still
making me a better person.
